LECTURE: Juhani Linnovaara: Dreamlike Landscapes and Surrealistic Self-Portrait Fantasies
Artist Juhani Linnovaara's (1934–2022) works search for the truth in a poetic way. They reflect their own time's cultural context, but seek inspiration in artistic tradition. Signe and Ane Gyllenberg admired his work and seven large oil paintings by Linnovaara are included in the Gyllenberg Art Collection. The oldest of these, Self-Portrait with Pocket Watch (1953, oil on canvas), was purchased in Linnovaara's very first solo exhibition. The purchase, made by a known art collector, was an important acknowledgement for the you artist, whose early work was considered bizarre by his contemporaries.
The lecturer is Leena Reinilä (MA). The lecture is in Finnish, the duration is ca. 45-60 min. Included in the entrance fee (12/10 €, Museum Card).
