Women Sculptors

17.3–29.8.2027

IDAAFI2

In spring and summer 2027 Villa Gyllenberg will exhibit Finnish women sculptors from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Only a few works from female sculptors from this period can be found in Finnish museum collections, and the artists also lacked opportunities to leave their mark in the field of public art. The situation changed only after the Second World War.

It is high time to shed light on these early women sculptors, and via their art also show the versatility of Finnish sculpture art in the 19th century and early 20th century. Finnish women sculptors from this era and their art have not been displayed this extensively before.

The upcoming exhibition is based on new research and there will be an exhibition catalogue published in co-operation with Parvs Publishing. The exhibition curator and writer of the catalogue is Ph. D. Liisa Lindgren.

The artists included in the exhibition are:

Divina Asp, Ida A Fielitz, Hilda Flodin, Sigrid af Forselles, Aline Forsman, Greta Godenius, Eva Gyldén, Helvi Hyvärinen, Ida Meller, Viivi Paarmio-Vallgren, Gerda Qvist, Essi Renvall, Auguste Rodin, Venny Soldan-Brofeldt, Gerda Sprinchorn and Marita Walldén.
